Privacy policy.
This page describes what data cpichart.com collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and what rights you have. Plain English; the technical specifics live in the linked third-party policies.

1. Overview
cpichart.com ("the site," "we," "us") is an online publication about U.S. Consumer Price Index data. We aim to collect the minimum information needed to operate the site, serve relevant advertising, and improve the reader experience. This policy explains what that means in practice.
2. Information we collect
Automatically collected: Like nearly every site on the web, our servers and analytics tools log standard technical information when you visit. This includes IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, the page you requested, referring URL, and timestamp. This data is used to serve the page correctly, prevent abuse, and aggregate visitor statistics.
Information you provide: If you fill in the newsletter signup form or the contact form, we collect the information you submit (typically your email address and any message body). We do not require account creation for any feature of the site.
Cookies and similar technologies: The site uses cookies for two purposes — remembering your preferences and supporting advertising (see below). You can disable cookies in your browser; some features may not work without them.
3. How we use information
The information we collect is used for the following purposes:
- Operating the site — delivering pages, displaying charts, sending newsletter emails to subscribers.
- Improving the site — analyzing aggregated traffic patterns to understand what's useful and what's not.
- Serving advertising — see Section 5 below.
- Responding to inquiries you've submitted via the contact form.
- Security and abuse prevention.
- Complying with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal data. We do not share user data with third parties except as described in this policy.
4. Third-party services
The site uses several third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs their use of any data they receive from you while interacting with the site:
- Third-party advertising networks — display advertising on the site may be served by one or more third-party ad networks. These networks may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising across many networks at aboutads.info (U.S.) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- TradingView — for live chart and ticker widgets. TradingView may set cookies to track widget usage. See TradingView's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts — for the IBM Plex font family. Google may receive your IP address and basic browser information when fonts are loaded. See Google's privacy policy.
- Analytics — we may use privacy-respecting analytics (such as Plausible or Google Analytics) to measure aggregated site usage. If used, the provider's privacy policy applies.
5. Advertising and personalization
The site shows display advertising. Some of these ads may be personalized to your interests based on data collected by third-party ad networks. You have several options:
- Opt out of personalized Google advertising at google.com/settings/ads.
- Opt out of personalized advertising across many networks at aboutads.info (U.S.) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- Use browser-level "Do Not Track" settings or third-party tools to block ad cookies. Ad blockers also disable personalized advertising.
Opting out does not remove ads — it makes them non-personalized. The site continues to show advertising regardless of your opt-out choice.
6. Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. The site uses three types:
- Strictly necessary cookies — required for basic site function (session, security). Cannot be disabled.
- Functional cookies — remember preferences like theme or display options. Can be disabled in your browser without breaking the site.
- Advertising cookies — set by third-party ad networks to serve and measure ads. Can be opted out of via the links in Section 5.
7. Data retention
Newsletter subscriber emails are retained until you unsubscribe. Contact form submissions are retained for up to two years to support follow-up correspondence and then deleted. Server logs are typically retained for 90 days for security and operational purposes. Third-party services have their own retention policies linked above.
8. Your rights — GDPR (EU/UK residents)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- Right of access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right of rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") — request deletion of data we hold about you, subject to lawful retention obligations.
- Right to restrict processing — limit how we use your data.
- Right to object — to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@cpichart.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
9. Your rights — CCPA (California residents)

10. Children's data (COPPA)

11. International data transfers
The site is hosted in the United States. If you visit from outside the U.S., your data is transferred to the U.S. for processing. By using the site, you consent to this transfer. We rely on standard contractual clauses with our third-party processors where applicable.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect data, including HTTPS in transit and access controls for any stored data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, however; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
